Brightman inks with DWU women’s soccer for 2018 season
MITCHELL, S.D. – Following an impressive career at Earlham High School, Marina Brightman signed with the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team, women’s head soccer coach Clayson Glasgow announced Friday.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Following an impressive career at Earlham High School, Marina Brightman signed with the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team, women's head soccer coach Clayson Glasgow announced Friday.
The Earlham, Iowa, native finished her junior season with 16 goals and nine assists. These numbers were first on her team, tied for fourth in the conference, 27th in 2A and tied for 64th in all classes of Iowa soccer. The numbers solidified her a place on the All-Conference Second Team.
During her sophomore season, Brightman tallied 28 goals and 11 assists, good for first on her team, first in the conference, fourth in '2A' and 12th in all classes of Iowa soccer. She was named IGCA All-State First Team, All-Conference First Team, IGCA All-District First Team and IAHSSCA All-State Honorable Mention.
Her efforts helped push her team to a 2016 Raccoon River Valley Conference Championship and a spot at the state tournament.
She played club soccer for the Earlham Soccer Club from 2010-2015 before competing for the VSA Premier Team in 2016 and 2017. She received an academic letter for soccer in 2016 and 2017.
Brightman will finish her career in the spring of 2018. She also competed in track since 2015 and will finish her career this spring as well.
"I chose Dakota Wesleyan University because of the family atmosphere of the campus and the personable and outgoing coaches and players which make it feel like home," Brightman said. "Also the new and improved facilities which are very impressive and the opportunities given for the development of my future in the field I want to study."
She is the daughter of Mark and Roberta Brightman and plans to major in wildlife management and environmental sciences.
"Marina will definitely bring some creativity to our attack," Glasgow said. "I truly love her attitude to take on players and desire to score goals. We are extremely delighted that she has decided to further her education at Dakota Wesleyan University while playing soccer."
