MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team has signed its' newest recruit in Skylar Skovlund, head coach Clay Glasgow announced Thursday.
The Crooks, S.D., native concluded her soccer career with the Tri-Valley Mustangs this fall. She played her club soccer for the Dakota Alliance Soccer Club where she won the State Cup in May of 2017.
"I chose DWU because of the small family atmosphere and the great academic programs," Skovlund said. "Clay has also always been enthusiastic and a great coach to play for."
She was a member of the National Honor Society and the president of FCCLA. Skovlund was also named to the Distinguished Honor Roll all four years of high school and won the Elite Eight Academic Award.
"We are very excited that Skylar decided to continue her academic and soccer career at Dakota Wesleyan University," Glasgow commented. "Skylar is a great addition to the university and the soccer program. I truly love her ability to read the game. She does a fantastic job staying connected on either side of the ball and her composure on the ball is amazing as well. Dakota Wesleyan University is very blessed to have her join our soccer family."
She plans to major in education or athletic training and is the daughter of Shannon and Heidi Skovlund.
