Bardsley secures victory with extra time goal

MITCHELL, S.D. – Less than four minutes into extra time, Josephine Bardsley (Tea, S.D.) sent the game-winning shot into the back of the net and celebrated with her teammates as the Dakota Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated NCAA Division II Black Hills State University, 3-2 in extra time on Friday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

 Bardsley was involved in every Tiger (3-1) goal on the day. The first goal of the match came in the 18^th minute as Bardsley found Alondra Partida (Salinas, Calif.) streaking down the field who snuck past the keeper and scored, giving DWU a 1-0 lead.

 Hannah Bowes (Omaha, Neb.) kept the Jackets (0-1) out of the net in the first half as she tallied six saves. Both teams went into the lockers with the Tigers leading, 1-0.

 However, just five minutes into the second half, BHSU evened the score line with a goal. Both teams were unable to break the tie until late in the game.

 With less than seven minutes to play, Partida dished the ball off to Bardsley who nailed the ball past the keeper to put DWU up, 2-1. Just three minutes later, the Jackets tied the game again with a goal, sending the contest into extra time.

 BHSU sent off the first shot of the extra time period less than a minute of play but missed wide left. After a foul by the Jackets, the Tigers were handed a free kick in opponent territory. Skylar Skovlund (Crooks, S.D.) sent the free kick into the box. After it was kicked around for a moment, the ball landed at the feet of Bardsley who tallied her second goal of the game and handed the Tigers the victory.

 Bardsley DWU with two goals, an assist and four shots. Partida finished with a goal, an assist and seven shots, while Skovlund tallied the third assist for DWU. Bowes finished the game with 10 saves on 12 shots on goal.

 The Tigers battle NCAA Division II foe, University of Minnesota-Crookston in a non-conference tilt at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 in Crookston, Minn.
