Lamer, DWU Track & Field wrap up historic indoor season
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) became the first track and field athlete in school history to win a National Championship as she took home the hardware in the Pentathlon, leading the Dakota Wesleyan University track & field teams at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Brookings, S.D.
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) became the first track and field athlete in school history to win a National Championship as she took home the hardware in the Pentathlon, leading the Dakota Wesleyan University track & field teams at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Brookings, S.D.
The Tiger women scored 16 points and finished tied for 16th place in the meet. In the Pentathlon, Lamer placed in the top five in four out of the five events. In the 60-meter hurdles, Lamer set a time of 8.95 seconds and placed second in the event. Lamer placed first in the high jump with a mark of 5-5 feet, and also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-5.75.
The senior finished out the day with the 800-meter run, where Lamer finished in fifth place with a time of 2:28.71 minutes to secure the individual National Championship. Lamer was named 2019 NAIA Women's Field National Athlete of the Year and also finished as an All-American this season.
In the triple jump competition, Lamer tallied a mark of 38-9.75, good for fourth place in the competition and another All-American honor. Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) also competed in the triple jump competition finishing 24th with a leap of 36-3, while Claire Stoller (Madison, S.D.) finished with a mark of 35-5 and finished in 31st place.
In the shot put, Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) earned All-American honors with toss of 45-7.25 feet and finished in eighth place. This is the second time Stofferahn has been named All-American.
On the men's side, Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) was named All-American for the third time in his career after placing sixth in the shot put finals with a mark of 55-10.25. Matthew Campbell (Colome, S.D.) collected a 10th place finish in the shot put with a toss of 52-2.75 feet, while freshman Calob Jones (Aberdeen, S.D.) tallied a 17th place finish with a mark of 50 feet.
Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) participated in the high jump and finished 13th nationally with a jump of 6-0.75. Campbell and Jenkins also participated in the weight throw competition as Campbell placed 10th throwing 56-8.5, as Jenkins finished 13th with a mark of 55-10.25.
The DWU track & field teams will begin the outdoor season on March 22 at the Wildcat Classic in Wayne, Neb.
