Lamer secures second national title, Tigers finish historic year

GULF SHORES, Ala. – After becoming the first national champion in Dakota Wesleyan University Track & Field history in the indoor season, senior Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) made history again as she won another national championship in the heptathlon at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.

 The event kicked off with the 100-meter hurdles, where Lamer took second place with a time of 14.5 seconds. 30 minutes later, she participated in the high jump and tied for second following a leap of 5-3.25 feet.

 Lamer took the lead in the heptathlon after the shot put event where she took fourth with a throw of 37-1.25 feet. She finished the opening day with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 25.91 seconds, giving her 3,077 points after one day.

 She picked up Friday where she left off the previous day in the long jump. She tallied a second-place finish after a mark of 17-7.5 feet, extending her lead. Lamer took second in the javelin throw with a toss of 139-8 feet, giving her a large advantage heading to the final event. Lamer was able to coast in the 800-meter run as she placed 13^th with a time of 2:36.95 minutes. However, thanks her large lead, Lamer became a national champion in the heptathlon with a total of 5,065 points.

 Lamer competed in the open events of the javelin throw, long jump, 100-meter hurdles and the triple jump. She took 17^th in the javelin throw with a throw of 124-10 feet, while she finished in 18^th place in the long jump with a leap of 17-11.5 feet.

 In the 100-meter hurdles, Lamer took 10^th after a time of 14.32 seconds and finished the triple jump in 30^th place after a mark of 36-4 feet.

 Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) joined Lamer with impressive finishes as he took third place in the high jump with a final mark of 6-9.75 feet. The junior jumper entered the meet outside of the top 20 jumpers in the NAIA but was able to finish with All-American honors.

 Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) joined the All-American Team in the hammer throw after he took eighth place with a throw of 192-5 feet. Jenkins finished the meet on Saturday in the shot put. He came in 10^th place after a mark of 54-2.75 feet.

 Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) was not far behind Jenkins as he checked in at 11^th place in the shot put following a toss of 53-7.75 feet. He also took 11^th in the hammer throw with a throw of 175-6 feet, while he placed 11^th in the discus after a mark of 157 feet.

 Junior Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) added herself to the All-American list with her performance in the shot put. She took sixth with a finish of 46-8.25 feet. Stofferahn completed the meet in the discus where she finished just outside of All-American honors in ninth place and a mark of 141-2 feet. Caden Milmine (Buffalo, Wyo.) finished out the meet with a 26^th-place finish in the shot put after a toss of 41-8 feet.

 Overall, the Tigers finished with a national champion in the heptathlon, along with four All-Americans out of six athletes competing.
