Lamer and Jenkins shine at SDSU Holiday Open
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Junior Kamber Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) started the 2017-18 Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field season off with a bang after recording two school records at the South Dakota State University Holiday Open on Friday and Saturday in Bookings, S.D.
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Junior Kamber Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) started the 2017-18 Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field season off with a bang after recording two school records at the South Dakota State University Holiday Open on Friday and Saturday in Bookings, S.D.
Lamer set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.24, while also setting the school record in the pentathlon. She brought home an eighth-place finish with a final score of 3,207. With her score, she hit the provisional national qualifying mark in the pentathlon.
In the 60-meter hurdles she placed fifth, 10th in the high jump, 16th-place in the shot put, fifth in the long jump and 12th in the 800-meter run.
In the women's weight throw, Heidi Frazee (Gillette, Wyo.) took 33rd-place with a toss of 40-10.50-feet and Madison Witte (Huron, S.D.) took 35th. In the shot put, Witte took 29th with a toss of 37-01.25-feet and Frazee tallied a 38th-place finish.
For the DWU men, Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) took 5th in the shot put with a throw of 53-06.50-feet to hit the automatic national qualifying mark and an 11th-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 51-07.75.
In his first collegiate meet of his career, freshman Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) finished in 14th-place in the weight throw with a throw of 50-02.75.
Both teams are back in action at the Dordt Open on Jan. 13 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
