Tigers take down in-state rival

YANKTON, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team looked to get back on the winning track after dropping a five-set thriller on Saturday. The Tigers hit the road and picked up a Great Plains Athletic Conference match up, defeating Mount Marty College in four sets on Tuesday night in Yankton, S.D.

 Set scores were 29-27, 21-25, 26-24 and 25-16 in favor of DWU.

 Set one was a tight battle as both teams traded points after the 18th point, but DWU came out on top after two Lancer errors. MMC jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead over the Tigers in set two and never looked back to even the contest at 1-1. In set three, the Tigers quickly saw their 9-4 lead dwindle and had to fight for an extra point to secure the set. The final set was all DWU as they answered with 11 straight points to down the Lancers.

 Seniors Dana Misiaszek (Mitchell, S.D.) and Lauren Tadlock (Rapid City, S.D.) each recorded a double-double for DWU. Misiaszek tallied 12 kills and 12 digs, while Tadlock added 21 kills and 17 digs. Setter Michelle Van Epps (Lakefield, Minn.) also had a double-double with 51 assists and 18 digs. Also for DWU, Katie Vetch (Rapid City, S.D.) had 10 kills and Taylor Spence (North Branch, Minn.) added 27 digs in the win.

 The Tigers (13-9, 3-7 GPAC) step out of conference play, taking on Mayville State University in the Mayville State Triangular at 7 p.m. Friday in Mayville, N.D.
