No. 1 Hastings downs DWU volleyball

MITCHELL, S.D. –The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team put up a hard fight against the reigning NAIA National Champions in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Friday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Set scores were: 25-12, 25-17 and 25-23 in favor of the Broncos.

In all three sets, the Tigers took the lead, however the Broncos (13-0, 5-0 GPAC) were able to come back in each stanza. In set two, the Tigers closed within three points of Hastings, thanks to a Karissa Schroder (Huron, S.D.) kill and an error by the Broncos.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the finale as DWU stormed out to a 7-1 lead. Hastings soon closed in after rallying back from a six-point deficit. Back-to-back kills by the Broncos put the set out of reach for the young Tiger squad.

Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) led the Tiger attack with seven kills. Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) added 11 digs, while Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) had 12 assists and five digs. Freshman Karissa Schroder (Huron, S.D.) tallied four kills.

The Tigers (12-8, 1-4 GPAC) visit Morningside College for a GPAC bout at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
