MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team blocked its way to victory on Friday night, taking down College of Saint Mary in four sets at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
Set scores were: 22-25, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-15 in favor of DWU.
After the Flames took set one of a Great Plains Athletic Conference match, DWU was able to keep CSM under 20 points in the next three sets to notch its third conference win of the season.
In set two, the Tigers were able to take a 14-point lead, thanks to a kill by Sydney Fritz (Winner, S.D.). Freshman Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) put the set away on a kill from Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.)
Set three was much of the same as Fritz recorded three-straight kills to start the set. Emily Brunsing (Wagner, S.D.) had one of her biggest games in a Tiger uniform, leading DWU in the blocking category. Brunsing was able to pick apart the Flames' attack, on her way to tallying 13 block assists and five kills.
Heeg finished with 11 kills and Fritz tallied 10 kills and five block assists, while Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) had a double-double with 13 kills, 11 digs and five block assists.
