
CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team took on Doane University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference game and lost to Doane in straight sets Saturday in Crete, Neb.
Set scores were 19-25, 21-25, 16-25.
DWU took a 4-1 lead in the first set after back-to-back attacking errors by Doane. After Doane tied the set at 16, DWU regained the lead following consecutive kills by Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) and Mallory Cooper (Orchard, Neb.). However, Doane (10-12, 3-7 GPAC) would go on to take the first set.
The second set was closely contested throughout as neither team took more than a two-point lead. Doane would eventually down DWU (12-10, 2-8 GPAC) in the second set after stringing together four-straight points.
After DWU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the final set, Doane scored 11 of the next 12 points to take an 11-4 lead and take the third set.
Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) tallied nine kills and 14 digs, while Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) recorded 18 digs. Sierra Mesman (Tyndall, S.D.) chipped in 11 digs, as Cooper added 10 digs.
DWU returns home to battle No. 12 Northwestern College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Christen Family Athletic Center.
