
YANKTON, S.D. – With three games left in the regular season, the Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team needed a victory for a chance to make the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament. DWU got the victory against Mount Marty College Tuesday night in Yankton, S.D.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.
The Lancers (3-21, 0-15 GPAC) got off to a hot start as they took the opening set. However, the Tigers (16-13, 4-10) evened the score after taking the second set.
Chelsey Heeg (Freeman, S.D.) gave DWU a five-point lead in the third set following a kill. The Lancers tied the score at 18 with a kill of their own. But, the Tigers pulled away down the stretch thanks to an Emily Brunsing (Wagner, S.D.) kill.
DWU opened up the scoring in the fourth set thanks to two kills by Heeg. The Tigers never looked back on their way to a 25-15 victory.
Rebecca Frick (Yankton, S.D.) finished with 20 digs and 19 kills, while Heeg tallied 14 kills six digs. Sara Herman (Reliance, S.D.) recorded 15 digs and Bridgett Knobbe (Norfolk, Neb.) added 45 assists and nine digs.
The Tigers hit the road to take on No. 5 Dordt College Saturday at 5 p.m. in Sioux Center, Iowa.
