JAMESTOWN, N.D. – One match after securing its first GPAC postseason berth in program history, the Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team fell to the University of Jamestown in straight sets to finish the fall with a 12-8 overall record and an 8-8 Great Plains Athletic Conference record on Tuesday in Jamestown, N.D.
Set scores were 12-25, 20-25, 22-25.
The Jimmies (15-0, 12-0 GPAC) handled the opening set as they jumped out to an early 10-3 lead. The Tigers (12-8, 8-8 GPAC) pulled within two points after a quick rally that saw kills by Jadie DeLange (Monument, Colo.) and Ady Dwight (Langford, S.D.).
However, as quickly as DWU pulled within striking distance, Jamestown went on a 15-4 run to close out the opening set in commanding fashion.
The Jimmies opened the second set with an early 8-4 advantage. DWU didn't let that lead last long, tying the set moments later after an Allison Jamison (Sioux Falls, S.D.) kill, assisted by Madeline Else (Holstein, Iowa).
Later in the same set, DWU trailed by six points. But DeLange recorded a kill, followed by a Jimmie error to cut the deficit two four points. However, Jamestown held off the late Tiger rally to take a 2-0 set lead.
Dwight tallied the first two kills for the Tigers in the third set to take an early 2-1 lead. Both teams traded blows as McKenzie Buisker (Watertown, S.D.) notched a pair of kills as DWU led 8-6.
The lead traded hands after Jamestown scored four of the next six points. The Jimmies never let go of their lead as they kept DWU at a distance to win the third and final set of the night.
Else finished with 26 assists and six digs, while Hanna Reiff (Chester, S.D.) notched 14 digs. Buisker led the offense with eight kills, as Dwight added seven kills and DeLange posted five kills.
The Tigers secured a spot in the GPAC Postseason Tournament in the spring of 2021; however, the matchups and dates of the matches will be released at a later date.
