The Lillibridge Track Complex and Gottsleben Field opened its gates ahead of the 2016 outdoor track and field season. It is the first outdoor facility available on campus since 1979.

The state-of-the-art facility features a nine-lane, 400-meter, NCAA-certified BSS 2000 track surface and competition areas for field events all viewable from the 1,000-seat grandstands. An in-ground timing system was also installed to automatically calculate interval and race times. Opposite the grandstand is a 120-meter incline and decline training lane. Only one other complex in the United States has the feature.

About John Lillibridge: The track complex was made possible thanks to the generous donation from alum John Lillibridge '62. Lillibridge, a native of Burke, South Dakota, was an All-American discus thrower for the Coyotes.

About Dave Gottsleben: The field was named for Dave Gottsleben, who served as the Coyotes head men's track and field coach for 33 years, from 1984 to 2017. Gottsleben was twice named the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. He won more conference championships than any coach in USD history with 20 between men's cross country and men's indoor and outdoor track and field.
