Tigers drop two games at PC Dome Classic
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped its’ two games against No. 25 Valley City State University, 2-1 and to NCAA Division II opponent Northern State University, 14-3 Friday in Aberdeen, S.D.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped its' two games against No. 25 Valley City State University, 2-1 and to NCAA Division II opponent Northern State University, 14-3 Friday in Aberdeen, S.D.
In the first game of the day, VCSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first two innings. However, senior pitcher Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the game.
DWU cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning after Haage singled to left field, bringing a run home. Both pitchers continued to work on the mound as VCSU defeated the Tigers.
Haage went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, while Andriana Sprakel (Yankton, S.D.) finished 2-for-4. Haage was tabbed with the loss after pitching seven innings, striking out four batters and allowing five hits.
In the second game of the day, DWU scored first after Devany Farris (Cheyenne, Wyo.) was walked with the bases loaded.
In the top of the second frame, freshman Allison McElveny (Chula Vista, Calif.) nailed a two-run homerun over the left field wall to put the Tigers up 3-0.
The lead would not last long as NSU added nine runs in the bottom of the same inning to take a 9-3 lead. The Wolves notched five more runs in the fourth inning to defeat DWU.
McElveny finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, while Kindra Clark (Garretson, S.D.) went 1-for-2 with a run. Mikael Smith (Brandon, S.D.) and Chaydon Metzger (Larchwood, Iowa) went 1-for-2 at the plate each. Alyson VanderPol (Mitchell, S.D.) suffered the loss as she allowed eight hits and five earned runs.
The Tigers take on Mayville State University and Dickinson State University beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the PC Dome Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.
