Tigers drop doubleheader with Red Raiders
ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped a pair of games against Northwestern College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped a pair of games against Northwestern College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.
The Tigers (11-27, 6-12 GPAC) scored an early run in the first inning off the bat of Amber Budmark (Sacramento, Calif.) who singled up the middle to score Andriana Sprakel (Yankton, S.D.) to give DWU a 1-0 lead.
The Red Raiders (13-18, 6-6 GPAC) answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 5-1. DWU fought back in the third inning after scoring seven runs on five hits. Northwestern committed three errors in the inning while Sprakel delivered a two-run single as well as an RBI-single from Julia Kelly (Omaha, Neb.).
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Red Raiders tallied four runs on three hits to regain the lead at 9-8. Northwestern tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take game one from DWU, 10-8.
Sprakel led the charge offensively for the Tigers going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Budmark, Kelly and Kindra Clark (Garretson, S.D.) all added two hits for DWU.
In the second game, Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) doubled into right field to bring a run home and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. One inning later, Sprakel connected on an RBI double to give DWU a 2-0 advantage.
However, the Red Raiders opened the game with an eight-run second inning. After Northwestern added another run in the fourth frame, the Tigers cut into the deficit with a Budmark RBI double. But, Northwestern ended the game after five innings with two runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to win 11-3.
Sprakel finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Budmark went 2-for-3 with a run batted in, while Severance added the other RBI. Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) struck out two batters in one and a third innings pitched.
DWU returns home to battle University of Jamestown at 3 p.m. on April 24 in Mitchell, S.D.
