Emma Yost & Kiel Nelson
Mitchell, S.D. – The Tiger of the week will now feature one male athlete and one female every week for their outstanding performances during the week. This week the recipients are Tiger football wide receiver, Kiel Nelson and Tiger women’s basketball forward, Emma Yost.
Kiel Nelson – Wide Receiver- Mitchell, S.D.
Nelson turned in a monster game against the No. 1 ranked Red Raiders of Northwestern College. Nelson had a career-high 147 yards and three touchdowns in the contest. Nelson and quarterback, Austin Lee were on the same page all day picking apart the Raider secondary. This is Kiel’s second game of the season with three scores (9/16/23 vs. Midland). Nelson has now had six games with over 100 yards receiving in his career now. Kiel wraps up his Tiger football career with a road matchup against currently ranked No. 23 Dordt, Saturday, November 11th with kickoff at 1 p.m.
Emma Yost – Forward, Wagner, S.D.
The freshman showed up and showed out for her first game at the Corn Palace. Yost wasted no time to record her first 20-point performance with 22 points and four rebounds. Emma shot an efficient 8-13 from the field (61.5%) and went 6-9 from the free throw line. You could see from the tipoff that the Tigers had full faith in the freshman and fed her the ball down low early and often. Emma showed signs of this when the team went to face Nebraska last week as she had five points and nine rebounds against one of the better post players around in Alexis Markowski. Emma and the Tigers take a week off before they are back in action Monday, November 13 when they take on in state rival, Dakota State in Madison S.D. with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
