Kretzschmar was named DWU Head Football Coach February 13, 2024.

Going into second season after being the Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Backs coach last season. Coached Adam DeJong who was selected to 1st Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-American after ranking 2nd in the NAIA and 1st in the GPAC with 7 INTs on the season.

While at Valley City State he coached quarterbacks/wide receivers for the 2021 season. From 2018-2020 was at Dakota State University as the Offensive Coordinator / Recruiting Coordinator. Before Dakota State was a wide receivers/quarterbacks coach at Colby College from 2015-2018. From 2013-14 Kretzschmar was the receivers coach at St. Ambrose University. He started his coaching career at North Park University as the wide receivers/returners coach during the 2012 season.

During his playing career he played wide receiver at DIII St. Norbert College and was part of two MWC Conference Championship Teams in 2007 and 2010. Earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Norbert College and master’s degree in organizational leadership from St. Ambrose University.

Kretzschmar currently lives in Mitchell with his wife Dr. Katrina Almeida who works as a foot and ankle surgeon at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.
