Bio

Taylor Summers joins the DWU football coaching ranks after 12 years of coaching experience, most recently serving as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Simon Fraser University (NCAA DII). He will coach the defensive line and coordinate special teams for the Tigers.

At SFU, he guided his defensive unit to four single-season school records; including interceptions, yards per game allowed, red zone efficiency and defensive touchdowns. Summers coached an All-GNAC First Team linebacker, a two-time All-GNAC Second Team defensive end, as well as the GNAC Newcomer-of-the-Year at defensive back. Improvement was the hallmark of his time at SFU as he guided the team to its first overall win after a 0-33 losing streak in 2018, to its first GNAC conference win in five years during the 2019 campaign. Summers recruited across Canada as well as all west coast states.

No stranger to the Midwest, Summers spent the 2015-16 seasons at the University of Minnesota-Crookston (NCAA DII) where he coached wide receivers, tight ends and coordinated strength and conditioning for the team. Summers was in charge of recruiting central Minnesota during his time at UMC.

Prior to UMC, Summers coached at Bemidji State University (NCAA DII) as a graduate assistant completing his Master of Science in 2015 after three years of coaching the defensive line. Marked by strong performances in the NSIC, the BSU defensive line included an All-NSIC Second Team award winner and one Pre-Season All-American. Summers also gained valuable experience recruiting northern Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Chicago.

A 2009 national semi-final appearance marked Summers' first season as a defensive line coach at Linfield College after completing his playing career as a NCAA DIII All-Region defensive end for the Wildcats.
