Urban shines as DWU wrestling competes at Sioux City Open
Sioux City, Iowa. – Freshman Marcus Urban (Plankinton, S.D.) had his best outing of his young career as the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team competed in the Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Sioux City, Iowa. – Freshman Marcus Urban (Plankinton, S.D.) had his best outing of his young career as the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team competed in the Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Urban started his day with a pin over Dylan Brazell from Graceland University in the second period. In his second match of the day, Urban picked up a major decision over Thomas Falk 13-1. He continued his success with another major decision victory, defeating Tanner Lundgren 18-5 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Urban picked up his third straight major decision, defeating Wallace Michal by a score of 13-3 to advance to the finals. In the last match of the day, Marcus Urban was paired up with Mason Miller from Grandview University who currently is ranked fifth in the nation at 157-pound weight class. Urban lost the championship match by fall, ending his day with a record of 4-1, outscoring his opponents 50 to 19, earning a second-place finish at the Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open.
Competing in the 285-pound weight class was Robert McCardle (Mitchell, S.D.), as he was defeated in a 3-1 decision in his final match of the day. Seth Caro (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) competed in the 125-pound weight class and fell to Marcus Tucker of Northwestern College by technical fall.
The Tigers are back at home as they face the University of Jamestown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
