SAYLER AND SHANKS EARN DAKTRONICS NAIA SCHOLAR ATHLETE HONORS

Mitchell, S.D. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2023 Daktronics NAIA Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athletes on Thursday. 

The 2023 list features 491 student-athletes that achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution. 

Caleb Sayler: Competed in seven meets this season including the NAIA National Championship race … had a career best time of 25:09.90, the fourth fastest 8k time in DWU cross country history … finished in the top 15 in three races this year with an average time of 26:13.64 in his 8k races.

Hunter Shanks: Competed in six races this season … beat his personal best with his time of 26:33.73, just missing the DWU top 10 list in the 8k … Shanks finished five spots better in this year conference race than the season before … recorded a new personal best in the 4-mile race at the Augustana Twilight with a time of 22:46.79.
