DWU baseball drops two at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – After four straight at home over the weekend, the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team hit the road for four games in North Dakota this week, starting with a doubleheader against the University of Jamestown on Tuesday.

The Jimmies swept the doubleheader, taking game one 10-2 and scoring 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 14-3 win in game two. The losses drop DWU to 14-20 overall on the season.

DWU hung with Jamestown in game one, until the Jimmies opened things up win the fifth inning with three runs to take a 7-2 lead. The home team added three more in the sixth to put the Tigers away. Jamestown was paced on offense by Landon Uetz who hit a three-run home run in the sixth. The Jimmies finished with 13 total hits.

The Tigers finished with four hits in game one, while committing two errors. Senior Joey Kinley (Worthington, Minn.) was the lone Tigers with multiple hits, finishing with two. Junior Christian Doyle (Jackson Hole, Wyo.) and sophomore Hartman Katz (Huron, S.D.) each added an RBI.

In game two, the Jimmies put the game out of reach early with 11 runs in the first inning aided by four DWU errors. The Tigers used three pitchers in the opening frame. The Jimmies finished with 13 hits, while DWU had two, led by junior Austin Calhoon (Winner, S.D.) with a double and an RBI.

The Tigers will look to bounce back in a doubleheader against Mayville State University at noon Wednesday in Mayville, N.D.
