Game 1
Dakota Wesleyan
Tabor
HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team did not have the luxury of easing into the 2016 schedule as the Tigers headed south to take on No. 4 Tabor College in a single 9-inning game Saturday in Hillsboro, Kan.
DWU was able to jump out to a 3-2 lead, but Tabor established themselves at the plate with 19 hits, including a pair of home runs to top the Tigers 17-8. DWU is now 0-1 on the season heading into a doubleheader with the Blue Jays on Sunday.
The Tigers got three runs in the fourth, including a pair on a RBI single from junior catcher Tramane Moore (Los Banos, Calif.) in his debut with DWU after transferring. The Tigers added another run in the fifth to lead 4-2, as redshirt-junior Jonah Johnson (Kerkhoven, Minn.) stole two bases after singling to lead off the inning. He later scored on a wild pitch.
Tabor took over from there with 15 runs in the next three innings to pull away from DWU. The Tigers scored two in the seventh and ninth, but it was not enough.
The Tigers got three hits each from Johnson, senior Dominic Sebastiani (San Francisco, Calif.) and redshirt-junior Jared Neilan (Pierre, S.D.), as Moore and junior Peyton Price (Norfolk, Neb.) each knocked in two runs.
Senior Dustin Steckler (Garretson, S.D.) got the start for DWU and took the loss against Tabor. He went four and a third innings, allowing six runs, four earned on eight hits, while striking out four. DWU finished with 15 hits and six errors.
DWU is right back at it against Tabor for a doubleheader Sunday.
