MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan baseball team was firing on all cylinders in a win over in-state rival Mount Marty College in a nonconference game Monday at Drake Field in Mitchell, S.D.

Freshman pitcher Drake Brown (Idaho Falls, Idaho) picked up his second career win in a Tiger uniform, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just three hits. The DWU offense did the rest, batting around in two separate innings in a 19-6 win.

The DWU bats exploded in the third inning with seven runs. The Tigers added three runs in the fifth and nine more in the seventh to pull away.

Right fielder Chris Combs (Las Vegas, Nev.) continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two walks and three runs. Senior Austin Calhoon (Winner, S.D.) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double, while second baseman Cole Wenande (Alexandria, S.D.) added a double, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Dominic Sebastiani (San Francisco, Calif.), Peyton Price (Norfolk, Neb.) and Lakin Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) added two hits apiece in the win. The Tigers tallied 16 hits, while being walked 11 times.

Senior pitcher Alex McGuigan (Pierre, S.D.) made his first appearance of the 2016 campaign, tossing two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four batters.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast for Wednesday, DWU (13-9) will travel to take on South Dakota State University for one non-conference nine-inning game at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brookings.
