
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team took on in-state NCAA Division I opponent South Dakota State University in a nine-inning game Tuesday in Brookings, S.D., as the Jackrabbits defeated the Tigers 7-4 despite a late rally by DWU.
SDSU got on the board first in the bottom of the third when they picked up five runs, followed by two more in the fourth. The Tigers responded with a run in the third, sixth, eighth and ninth innings.
Senior Dominic Sebastiani (San Francisco, Calif.) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while center fielder Jonah Johnson (Kerkhoven, Minn.) went 2-for-3 with two runs and two walks in the loss. Chris Combs (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Nolan Luhmann (Jackson, Minn.) added two hits apiece.
Junior Steven Somerville (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) picked up the loss after throwing two innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and two walks.
The Tigers (13-10) return to action against in-state foe Dakota State at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Drake Field in Mitchell.
