Tigers and Broncos battle to split in GPAC DH
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team split a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader against Hastings College Tuesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, S.D.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, poor weather pushed the matchup back a couple of days, as the Tigers took game one 4-1 and lost the second, 9-4.

Down 1-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth, DWU put up four runs in game one. The rally started when Jonah Johnson (Kerkhoven, Minn.) belted a single that scored Lakin Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) to tie the game at one. Dominic Sebastiani (San Francisco, Calif.) later roped a single to left field that brought Johnson home. Senior Neil Nagle (Oslo, Minn.) blasted a triple to center field, scoring Sebastiani and Tyler Waddle (Huron, S.D.) to help DWU pull away.

Junior Patrick Whetham (Garretson, S.D.) picked up his third win of the season, tossing six strong innings, allowing one run on eight hits, while striking out five. Will Lutjen (Millers Place, N.Y.) closed the door for his third save of the year.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in game two heading into the fifth inning, but four runs in the fifth and three in sixth push Hastings ahead for good. Johnson and Waddle both had two hits in the loss.

Freshman Gavin Reichmuth (Chandler, Ariz.) took the loss on the mound, throwing five and a third innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits.

The Tigers (21-18) return to action when they hit the road to take on No. 9 University of Jamestown for one-nine inning contest at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Redfield, S.D.
