GLOVICH GOES THE DISTANCE, DWU SWEEPS LUMBERJACKS IN TUCSON DOUBLEHEADER

TUCSON, Ariz. – Clicking on all cylinders for the second-consecutive day, the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team made quick work of neutral-site and NCAA Division III opponent Northland College on Monday afternoon from the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. Strong pitching, including a complete game from Dakota Wesleyan right-handed pitcher Jacob Glovich, along with timely hitting jolted DWU to an 11-1 win in game one and a 9-3 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tiger (4-2) bats were a full go in game one of the doubleheader led by DWU senior infielder Daulton Wilcoxen who tallied a 4-of-4 performance at the plate. Wilcoxen notched a pair of doubles along with four RBIs while the Tigers dialed four extra-base knocks. Northland College, paced by outfielder Jake Schramm who tallied both a hit and base-on balls, punched four hits in the contest, though Dakota Wesleyan cruised to another quick start with six runs in the first two innings.

Carter Gullickson meanwhile crushed a timely triple, and the DWU outfielder registered four runs scored and two hits. Offensively, the Tigers raked in 12 hits and forced the LumberJacks (0-4) into five costly errors. The Blue and Gray pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the fourth stanza and ensued with three runs in the fifth frame. Seven Dakota Wesleyan batters recorded a hit in the doubleheader opener including Matt Bezdicek as the Plymouth, Minn., native notched three RBIs on a pair of hits.

On the mound, Dawson Penticoff allowed just four hits and surrendered two base-on balls in five innings of work. The Rapid, S.D. senior fanned four Northland batters and collected his second-straight win on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season. Dakota Wesleyan wrapped up the double-digit, 11-1 win in commanding fashion to begin the doubleheader on a high note.

Glovich, in his second appearance of the season, fed off the high energy to start the doubleheader finale, and the Sioux Falls, S.D., native recorded the complete game for the Tigers. Relinquishing just two earned runs, Glovich struck out six NC batters and becomes the first DWU pitcher to go the distance since Jared Jones (2020-21) recorded a 4-3 complete game performance in last year's season finale.

Offensively, Dakota Wesleyan kept its foot on the gas scoring three runs in the first stanza and added another run in the second inning. Drew Kitchens paved the way for the Tigers with two hits and multiple RBIs while Bradley Skorezewski chipped in two additional two runs batted in. 

The LumberJacks answered with three runs across the third and fourth frames to narrow the deficit to 4-3 after four innings of action. However, an offensive outburst in the sixth inning in which Dakota Wesleyan registered five runs expanded the Tiger benefit to 9-3. At the plate, six Dakota Wesleyan hitters reached via base-on balls while Northland managed just five baserunners, and Glovich and the Tigers secured the doubleheader sweep by a final of 9-3.
