TIGER BASEBALL PUTS FOUR STUDENT-ATHLETES ON ALL-CONFERENCE LIST

Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan baseball had four GPAC All-Conference selections as announced this morning by the GPAC. Among those selected were graduate student, first baseman, Matt Bezdicek; junior, catcher, Wyatt Hunt; senior, outfielder, Cameron Quigley; and senior infielder Carter Gullickson.

 

Graduate student Bezdicek was selected to GPAC Second Team after transferring to DWU in the spring semester. During his one semester with Tiger baseball, Bezdicek went on to break the single-season doubles record with 17 on the year. In his 145 total at bats, he tallied 54 hits, 31 runs and 30 RBI. Bezdicek recorded averages of .372 batting, .492 on base, and .648 slugging, adding on seven home runs and 21 walks. He was no stranger to being hit by a pitch as he reach first on them 14 different times over the 2022 season. On the mound, Bezdicek started nine games while having 11 total appearances on the mound and three complete games for head coach Dubanoski. Over that time, he tossed 54 2/3 innings while allowing 69 hits and striking out 54 batters. Bezdicek's strikeout per nine innings was 8.89 as he recorded a 4.94 ERA.

 

Junior, Hunt was selected as an honorable mention for DWU in the 2022 season. Hunt was the primary catcher for the Tigers this season, playing in 39 total games behind the plate. Hunt had 128 plate appearances during the 2022 season, recording 36 hits, five doubles, and a team leading three triples. He also added three home runs, 30 RBI, and 12 runs to his stat line while batting .281. Hunt posted a .373 on base percentage and a .438 slugging percentage. Hunt was also no stranger to getting hit by pitches as he took 11 over the season on his 56 total bases.

 

Senior, Quigley was selected to the All-Conference honorable mention list after recording a .411 on base percentage, and a .368 slugging percentage. While Quigley only had 39 hits in his 140 at bats, he reached base on balls a total of 23 times while being hit by a pitch ten times. He drove in 18 runners while notching 35 runs himself with seven doubles, one triple, and a pair or homeruns. Quigley was second on the team with ten stolen bases. In the field, Quigley recorded 95 putouts while only committing two errors for a fielding percentage of .980.

 

Senior, Gullickson also earned honorable mention after notching 52 total hits on the season in his 165 at bats. Gullickson drove in 21 RBI and recorded 37 runs with ten doubles, two triples, and a trio of home runs. He posted averages of .383 on base, and .455 slugging all while reaching base on balls 12 times and being hit by a pitch six times. Gullickson played in a total of 43 games for the Tigers during the 2022 season.
