Sioux Falls, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan dropped a single non-conference game against DII opponent University of Sioux Falls by a score of 13-7. In the slugfest the Tigers got big performances out of their two, three, four hitters. Lane Darrow in the two spot went 2 for 3 with his first career home run and scoring three runs. Caleb Meyers followed his two-home run effort, giving him three runs and runs batted in on the day while also drawing two walks. Seth Christiansen in the cleanup spot continued his dominant 2024 season with a career-high four hit game and tacked on one RBI in the game. The three combined for eight of the Tigers 11 hits in the contest. Ryan McGinnis also left the yard with his first home run of the season, second of his career in ninth.
Despite the score the DWU bats were right there with the Cougars bat who slugged 12 hits in the game. The game was ultimately decided in the bottom of the fifth where USF plated seven runs on just two hits, one being a big fly, while drawing eight walks/hit by pitches in the inning alone. The Tiger staff during the frame also had two wild pitches which both resulted in runs being scored. Agustin Sanchez got the start and took the loss for the Tigers going 4.1 innings and giving up nine earned. He was relieved by Presten Riddle who surrendered four runs who was relieved by Jakson Nantke making his DWU debut. Nantke struggled with some early jitters but then settled it doing a nice job of limiting the Cougars bats in his 3.1 innings of scoreless work.
