Mitchell, S.D. –
Dakota Wesleyan University hosted the University of Jamestown Jimmies for a four-game series. Jamestown took the first game from the Tigers, holding DWU to just two hits and forced three DWU errors. Mitchell Sand started on the bump for the Tigers and stuck out three batters and held the Jimmies to just one run through the first four innings. Jamestown scored five runs in the fifth inning and were able to run away with an 8-0 win in the first game of the series.
Game two was a tight contest with neither team scoring a run in the first inning. UJ scored a pair in the top of the second, but DWU answered with two runs of their own that were scored by Drew Kitchens and Seth Christiansen. Third inning was all Jamestown as they put up four runs on four hits and the fourth inning was all Dakota Wesleyan as they scored three runs to make it 6-5 heading into the fifth. Tigers scored two runs to take the lead by one run. After a few runs were scored by teach team in the sixth, the score was 8-8. The Jimmies would score five unanswered runs in the final three innings and take the win in game two, 13-8.
In game three, the Jimmies put two runs on the board in the first inning. Christiansen started on the mound and limited the damage after giving up the two runs by stranding three runners. Jamestown's first batter in the third inning homered off Brady Christoffels but that would be the only run of the inning for UJ. Dakota Wesleyan started the bottom of the third with a Lane Darrow triple and he would slide across home plate off a Drew Kitchens single to center. Christiansen would earn an RBI with his single up the middle after Kitchens scored his run. Caleb Meyers would be the third run across the dish in the inning for the Tigers.
Pinch hitter Nathan Meyers cranked a solo home run out of left field to give DWU a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jamestown answered Dakota Wesleyan with two runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead, 5-4. After the third out was recorded, the Tigers went out and scored one run to knot up the score at five runs apiece heading into the final frame of play.
The Jimmies scored a single run in the seventh inning to take back the lead again, 6-5. The Tigers had other plans for the outcome of this game, however. With Darrow on second and Kitchens on first, Meyers singled down the right field line and Head Coach Charlie Dubanoski sent Darrow home for the tying score and Kitchens stopped at third. Jamestown decided to intentionally walk Christiansen and load the bases. On a wild pitch, Kitchens was able to walk it off with the winning run. Dakota Wesleyan took the win, 7-6 over the Jimmies.
The fourth game of the weekend series started with both squads going run less through the first two innings after Dexter Payne put the first three Jimmies down in order. UJ scored the first run of the game in the third after a Tiger error. DWU bounced back and put three runs on the board with Landon Ruesink, Jake Kostenbauer, and Lane Darrow scoring the three runs. The Tigers had a two-run lead after the first three innings.
Jamestown started piling up the runs in the fourth inning with three runs scored, two in the sixth, and a staggering seven runs in the seventh. DWU was unable to get on base in the final few innings and dropped the second game 13-3 to the Jimmies.
