Mitchell, S.D. - The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers hosted the Northern State University Wolves today for an afternoon double header.

Game 1

Game Highlights:

• Northern State's Scoring:
  • Top of 2nd Inning: J. Hull hit a 2-RBI double, followed by #6 Dylan Soulek's RBI single to bring in another run.
  • Top of 3rd Inning: #5 Drew Benson hit a solo homer.
  • Top of 7th Inning: #28 Dillon Castellanos walked, and then was driven in by Benson's groundout to 3rd base.

Pitching Performance:

• Northern State's pitching was strong throughout, as they kept Dakota Wesleyan off the scoreboard, including a scoreless 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings.
• Dakota Wesleyan's pitching, particularly from Mitchell Sand and Nate Huisken, kept the game competitive for the Tigers.

While DWU fought hard throughout the second game, they fell short in extra innings, losing 8-6 to Northern State.

Northern State's Scoring:

• Top of the 1st Inning:

  • #25 Brennan Phillips singled to left and advanced to third on an error by the second baseman.
  • #20 Jack Weidner flied out to center field, driving in Phillips to give Northern State an early 1-0 lead.

• Top of the 3rd Inning:

  • #12 Nick Friedges hit a 2-run homer, scoring Weidner, extending Northern State's lead to 3-0.

• Top of the 5th Inning:

  • #28 Dillon Castellanos reached second on an error, stole third, and scored on an error by the center fielder, helping Northern State score 2 more runs.
  • Weidner hit a double, and #5 Drew Benson was hit by a pitch, putting runners in scoring position, but they didn't capitalize fully after that.

• Top of the 10th Inning:

  • Phillips walked, and Castellanos tripled to center field, driving him in.
  • Weidner flied out to right, bringing in Castellanos, and Northern State added 2 more runs to their total.

Dakota Wesleyan Highlights:

   • #27 Mason Riley doubled and scored on a groundout, and #16 Caleb Breuer singled in another run, bringing Dakota Wesleyan within 4-2.

2. Bottom of the 6th Inning:

   •  #26 Nate Meyers scored on a passed ball, and #27 Mason Riley drew a walk, driving in another run to cut the lead to 5-4.

3. Bottom of the 7th Inning:

   • Breuer singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and #8 Lane Darrow singled him home.
   • #18 Joseph Tharaldson and N. Meyers both made key plays, and #21 Brayden Cherrey struck out, but Riley flied out, tying the game for Dakota Wesleyan at 6-6.

Final Score: Northern State 8, Dakota Wesleyan 6

The game ended with Northern State holding on for a 8-6 victor. Dakota Wesleyan fought back but couldn't overcome the late runs by Northern State.

The Tigers will head to Tuscon, Arizona to take part in the Tuscon Inviational tournament. They will play multiple games on the trip against, as follows, Bethany Lutheran, Northern State, Dickinson State, two against SMSU, and Park-Gilbert (AZ).
