Tucson, Ariz. - Dakota Wesleyan Tigers Fall to Park University-Gilbert Buccaneers to Wrap Up Their Time in Arizona
Dakota Wesleyan 8 - Park Gilbert (AZ) 9
The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers put up a valiant effort but fell just short in a thrilling 9-8 loss to the Park University-Gilbert Buccaneers at Kino Sports Complex. Despite trailing early due to a five-run third inning by the Buccaneers, the Tigers mounted a strong comeback, nearly clawing their way back to victory.
Lane Darrow was a standout for the Tigers, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring two runs, showcasing his consistent ability to get on base. Joseph Tharaldson also had a strong performance, driving in 3 RBIs, including a key contribution during a five-run fifth inning that pulled the Tigers within striking distance. The offensive depth was evident, with contributions from Jackson Jarding and Dexter Payne, both adding key hits and providing timely production to keep the Tigers within reach.
On the mound, Broc Berry came in relief, pitching 5 innings and striking out 8 batters. While he did give up 3 earned runs, his efforts to keep the game close gave the Tigers a chance at a comeback. Dakota Wesleyan's pitchers struggled with control at times, as evidenced by the 10 walks given up, but they continued to fight throughout the game.
The Tigers' defense was put to the test, but they showed resilience, especially in the later innings as they looked to shut down the Buccaneers' offense. However, Park-Gilbert's early lead was ultimately too much to overcome.
Despite the loss, the Tigers' ability to mount a comeback, highlighted by their offensive firepower and strong pitching performances from Darrow and Tharaldson.
