Dakota Wesleyan’s Late Surge Not Enough in 10-6 Loss

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team put up a strong fight, staging a late-game rally, but ultimately fell 10-6 to Dakota State University on Tuesday afternoon at Drake Field. The Tigers' offense ignited in the eighth inning, scoring five runs in a valiant comeback effort.

After trailing for most of the game, Dakota Wesleyan's bats came alive late. Ean Laird and Landon Ruesink each delivered key hits, driving in two runs apiece to fuel the rally. Kelbee Woodham also added an RBI, keeping the Tigers within striking distance. Lane Darrow and Caleb Meyers contributed multiple hits, showcasing Dakota Wesleyan's offensive depth.

On the mound, starter Emmot Nathan held Dakota State scoreless in the first inning before handing the game over to the bullpen. Brayden Cherrey led the pitching staff with seven strikeouts in four innings of work, while relievers Broc Berry and Logan Miller each provided valuable innings. Defensively, shortstop Joseph Tharaldson anchored the infield, and catcher Kelbee Woodham helped manage the pitching staff despite a lone defensive miscue. Dakota Wesleyan finished with nine hits and left ten runners on base.
