Mitchell, S.D. – DWU football drops game one of the 2021 season to Dakota state. The game was decided by two field goals, after a one-hour weather delay.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dakota Wesleyan was down early in the game after a 27-yard field goal by Caleb Nielsen of Dakota State
  • The Tigers and the Trojans each tallied 12 first downs, but DWU collected six passing and five rushing first downs
  • Third down efficiency was in favor of the Tigers with 31% (5-of-16)
  • Total offensive and net passing yards had DWU written all over it, the Tigers tallied 262 total yards of offense and 167 net passing yards
  • Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Kiel Nelson was 17-of-37 in the game with 167 yards
  • Jamin Arend led the Tigers in rushing with 22 attempts for 41 yards
  • Jakob Oxos notched nine receptions for 105 yards
