DWU FOOTBALL STUMBLES AGAINST NO. 18 DORDT

Sioux Center, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan football notched 441 total yards of offense despite falling to No. 18 Dordt on the road. The Tigers tallied their most kickoff return yards of the season, returning four kickoffs for 80-yards.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • On the opening DWU drive of the game, the Tigers were forced to punt on a fourth and sixth situation.
  • After a 38-yard punt from Tate Gale, Jesus Herrera forced a fumble as Jett Evans recovered it, giving Dakota Wesleyan back-to-back drives.
  • After a five-yard rush by Garrett Mandolf, DWU had a third and five scenario at the 22-yard line of Dordt.
  • The Tigers didn't move the ball on third down, entering a fourth and five; Trevor Lamber put the first points on the board with a 38-yard field goal for the 3-0 lead.
  • Dordt found the endzone on back-to-back Defender drives, taking the lead 14-3 over the Tigers.
  • Dakota Wesleyan's first drive of the second quarter took them 64-yards on 14 plays that lasted seven minutes and eight seconds.
  • DWU earned another field goal off the foot of Lambert to wrap up their drive as they still trailed by a score of 6-21.
  • After a Dordt touchdown before halftime, the Tigers trailed 24-6 after two-quarters of play.
  • After three more Defender touchdowns and a score of 45-6, Kiel Nelson rushed for seven yards giving DWU their first touchdown of the game as they still trailed 45-13.
  • The Tigers tallied 441 total yards of offense, 180 net passing yards, and 261 yards on the ground.
  • Nelson threw for 180 yards, completed 12-of-26 passing attempts, and ran for 150 yards with one touchdown.
  • Jamin Arend rushed for 75 yards on 20 carries.
  • Jakob Oxos notched three receptions for 78-yards, and Daniel Libolt had three receptions for 44-yards.
  • Jacob Shafer led the defensive group with nine total tackles and one tackle for a loss of two yards.
  • Joshua Garry and Dominick Warmbein notched one sack each.
