Robinson Shines As Dakota Wesleyan Earns Their Second Win

MITCHELL, SD – Carter Robinson accounted for four total touchdowns as the Dakota Wesleyan football team cruised to their second win Saturday afternoon 47-21 over Doane in the annual Blue & White game at Joe Quintal Field.

Dakota Wesleyan trailed early on as Doane jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 9-play, 76 yard drive on the opening possession, ending in a 2-yard TD pass from QB Sam Hartman to Nate Fox. Dakota Wesleyan responded with a 67-yard touchdown run from QB Carter Robinson to finish off a 5-play, 79 yard drive halfway through the first quarter. Doane would take the lead back in the final seconds of the first quarter as Hartman threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Reece Zutavern to finish off a 68-yard drive in 15 plays.

Dakota Wesleyan answered back in the second quarter by putting together two unanswered scoring drives. Landon Iverson got in the endzone on a 2-yard run to cap off a 68-yard drive in 8 plays with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Then just before halftime, Robinson found Cole Holden for a 4-yard touchdown pass with just :10 left in the half to finish off a 12-play, 83-yard drive that gave Dakota Wesleyan a 20-14 lead at the break.

The third quarter was dominated by Dakota Wesleyan as they would find the endzone on all three possessions to take control of the game and put it out of reach. Robinson threw his second touchdown pass of the day on their opening possession of the half, a 28-yard connection to Cole Holden with 11:30 to go in the quarter to extend their lead to 26-14. Robinson would find the endzone on the ground again on their next possession, a 4-play drive covering 59 yards, capped off by his 36-yard run to make their lead 33-14 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. Koby Kayser would get into the endzone on their last possession of the quarter on a 2-yard run with just under a minute left that gave Dakota Wesleyan a commanding 40-14 lead going into the 4th quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns as Logan Serck scored on a 3-yard run for Dakota Wesleyan, while Hartman got into the endzone on a 1-yard run for Doane to make the final score 47-21 and give Dakota Wesleyan their second straight win.

Dakota Wesleyan outgained Doane 513-360 in total yardage with 368 yards coming on the ground. QB Carter Robinson had another impressive performance for Dakota Wesleyan with 155 yards passing and 2 touchdowns, along with 145 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

Dakota Wesleyan improved to 2-4 on the season and they'll be back at home next Saturday to host Dordt in more GPAC play.
