Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball defeated in-state rival Dakota State in the 2021-22 season opener with a 22-point margin. Five different players score in double digits as Koln Oppold goes for a double-double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening four minutes of the game was kept close by both teams until Oppold hit his first three-point shot of the evening for the 11-5 lead.
- DWU continued to hold the Trojans to single-digit points through the first three and a half minutes of the first half.
- The Tigers never allowed the Trojans to lead in the first half, as they headed to the locker rooms with a halftime score of 39-28.
- Mason Larson tallied a block on the first Dakota State shot of the second half, to retain the 11-point lead.
- The Trojans were held scoreless through the first two minutes of the second half, before a layup as DWU continued to lead 43-30.
- Drew Cole gave Dakota Wesleyan a 20-point lead at the 15:29 mark in the second half on a three-point shot.
- After the made three-point shot by Cole, Wilber, and company; shut the door on the Trojans and collected the 74-52 victory.

- Koln Oppold: 20 points, 56.2 FG%, 100 3-pt%, 12 rebounds, six assists, two steals
- Jeffrey Schuch: 10 points, 62.5 FG%, eight rebounds, three assists, one block
- Mason Larson: 11 points, 40 FG%, eight rebounds, three assists, four blocks
- Ace Zorr: 10 points, 71.4 FG%, and nine rebounds
- Alan Kikwaki: 10 points and 44.4 FG%
