DWU MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS IN OVERTIME AT THE PENTAGON

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball dropped a nail-bitter after a missed jump shot to win the game. Both Valley City State and DWU were nearly equal in shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dakota Wesleyan fell behind 11-4, four minutes into the game.
  • Koln Oppold made a three-point shot, bringing the deficit to 13-11 with just under 13-minutes to play in the first half.
  • Soon after, Mason Larson hits a shot beyond the arc for the Tigers' first lead of the game at 16-15.
  • Dakota Wesleyan quickly added to their one-point lead as Alan Kikwaki and Jeffrey Schuch made back-to-back shots for a 21-15 lead.
  • After four minutes of game time, DWU and VCSU were back within one point of each other with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • After a Kikwaki three-pointer and a made free throw by Oppold, the Tigers entered halftime leading 38-32.
  • Dakota Wesleyan opened the second half with a 7-0 run spanning almost three minutes for a 13-point lead.
  • After the ten-minute mark of the second half, the Vikings began to close the gap, bringing the score within five as DWU still leads 56-51.
  • With two and a half minutes left in regulation, Valley City tied the game at 70-70 on a made free throw.
  • Ace Zorr made a two-point field goal for the 72-70 lead with a minute and a half left in the game.
  • Coach Wilber called a time out with 26-seconds left in the game and up by two after Schuch grabbed an offensive round.
  • Coming out of the Tigers timeout, the Vikings got a steal and tied the game at 72 each.
  • Oppold had a chance to win the game of DWU with a last-minute shot, but it did not fall, taking the Tigers and Vikings to overtime.
  • Heading to overtime, Schuch put the Tigers on top 74-72 early but did not last long as the Vikings tied it up their next trip down the floor.
  • DWU and VCSU went point-for-point through the first two minutes before the Vikings went up 78-76.
  • After a technical foul on DWU, Valley City made all their free throws to go ahead 83-76 with two and a half minutes left in overtime.
  • Dakota Wesleyan; could not climb back to take the lead as they dropped their first game of the season 88-86 to Valley City.
  • In the game, the Tigers shot 58.2% from the field, 45.5% beyond the arc, and 60.7% at the foul line.
  • DWU held the Vikings to shooting 47.6% from the floor and 44.4% from distance.
  • Dakota Wesleyan out-rebounded Valley City 34-33.
  • The Tigers forced 12 Viking turnovers, while the DWU bench added 18-points of their own.
