TIGERS SHOOT 40% BEYOND THE ARC IN THE GPAC HOME OPENER

Mitchell, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball remains perfect at home as three different players score in double-digits. The Tigers remain perfect at home as they begin to enter conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dakota Wesleyan opened the game with back-to-back made triples from Alan Kikwaki and Sawyer Schultz for the 6-2 lead.
  • Mason Larson hit a jump shot to extend the Tigers lead to 8-2, forcing a Hastings timeout just over two minutes into the game.
  • After a Larson dunk that got the Corn Palace on its feet with a one-point lead, both teams went cold for a minute and a half.
  • The Broncos broke the scoring drought with a jump shot then a made three-pointer, taking a 14-10 lead over DWU.
  • The Tigers answered back two possessions later as Schultz hit another shot from deep, closing the deficit to three
  • As DWU and the Broncos closed in on the 10-minute mark of the first half, Kikwaki hit another three-pointer of his own, tying the game at 16 all.
  • Kikwaki stayed hot the next time down the court, hitting yet another shot from deep, this time giving the Tigers a 19-18 lead.
  • The last nine minutes of the first half went back and forth, going shot for shot and keeping the game within one point either way.
  • Dakota Wesleyan earned a 27-20 lead after Schultz collected on a shot from beyond the arc with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half.
  • With two and a quarter minutes left in the first half, the Broncos tied everything up at 31 each.
  • Hastings netted one more shot before the end of the half as Dakota Wesleyan was trailing 33-31 after 20-minutes of play.
  • In the first half, Kikwaki and Schultz shot perfect beyond the arc with 4-of-4 and 3-of-3, respectively.
  • DWU came out to start the second half, going on a 12-0 run that stretched just over four minutes, coming ahead with the 43-33 lead.
  • The Broncos made a push and began closing the gap until they were within two points at 48-46 DWU lead with 11-minutes to play.
  • The Tigers kept making shots and went from up two with 11-minutes to play, up by 14 with four minutes to play as Koln Oppold netted a shot from deep.
  • Jeffrey Schuch netted the final two points of the night for DWU as they grabbed the win 72-56.
  • The Broncos and Tigers had three ties and eight lead changes
  • DWU shot perfect from the foul line, converting on their two attempts, while HC was 6-of-8 from the foul line.
  • On the floor, Dakota Wesleyan shot 50.9% and held Hastings to a 44.2 shooting percentage from the field.
  • The Tigers held the Broncos to shooting 28.6% beyond the arc.
  • DWU was 12-of-30 from deep for a shooting percentage of 40%.
  • Dakota Wesleyan outrebounded Hastings 28-26 while forcing 11 Bronco turnovers.

Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball is back in action at home tomorrow afternoon from the Corn Palace. The Tigers will take on the other conference Tigers in Doane University. DWU and DU; are set to tip-off at 3:45 p.m. in the Corn Palace for their last home game of the 2021 calendar year.
