TIGER MENS BASKETBALL PICKS UP THIRD WIN IN A ROW, COMPLETING THE SEASON SWEEP OF BRONCOS

Hastings, Neb. – Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball competed the season sweep of Hastings Friday evening on the road. Five different players score in double-digits as the team shoot 51.8% from the floor.

How It Happened

  • After another close start through the first five and a half minutes, Mason Larson gets the Tigers rolling after notching five consecutive points for the 14-6 lead.
  • The Broncos quickly climbed back within two points, before Sawyer Schultz hit a three-pointer keeping the lead in the favor of DWU 17-12.
  • With eight minutes left in the first half, Teegan Evers converted on a pair of free throws for the commanding 22-16 lead.
  • Larson provided Dakota Wesleyan with their largest lead of the first half after two made foul shots, pushing the lead to 12 points.
  • Heading into the break, the Tigers led the Broncos 38-29.
  • Hastings quickly closed the deficit to start the second half after an 8-5 starting the final 20-minutes of regulation.
  • With DWU ahead 43-38, Koln Oppold hit a jump shot followed by a Larson three for the 48-38 lead.
  • As both teams ran into a scoring drought over the next two minutes, Drew Cole broke the trend with another three pointer and the 51-38 lead.
  • As the midway point of the second half loomed closer, the Tigers continued to find points from different players, ultimately extending their lead to 60-46.
  • Coach Wilber and company tallied their largest lead of the game with a 72-49 upper hand over the Broncos with 5:43 remaining.
  • Hastings continued to push late in the game, trying to close the gap putting together a 10-0 run.
  • Dakota Wesleyan held on for the win and season sweep over Hastings with the 77-64 win on the road.
  • In the game, DWU out shot HC from the floor 51.8% to 41.5%
  • The Tigers shot 31.8% beyond the arc and 75% from the free throw line.
  • DWU held the Broncos to shooting only 16.7% from distance as they converted on 17-of-24 free throws.
  • Dakota Wesleyan tallied 33 rebounds, 15 second chance points, and 12 points in the paint.
  • After forcing Hastings to turn the ball over 11 times, DWU tallied 14 points off those turnovers, compared to the 13 points the Broncos scored off 12 DWU turnovers.
  • The Tigers bench chipped in with 31 points while the Broncos bench tallied 24 points.
