How It Happened
DWU started with hot shooting over the first four minutes of play, but so didn't Hastings. The Tigers opened the scoring from deep as Diang Gatluak hit the shot just 45-seconds in. It wasn't long till Hastings got rolling and held the margin close through the first nine minutes of play. Kallan Herman broke the tie putting DWU ahead 18-15 with 11-minutes to play. After several ties and lead changes, the Tigers went back out to a three-point lead at 27-24 with four and a half minutes to play, but the Broncos cut it back within one point on their next trip down the floor. As the final 47-seconds of play showed on the scoreboard, Koln Oppold hit a shot from deep to extend the DWU lead to 36-32, which stood as the teams headed to the locker room for halftime.
Oppold opened the second half the same way he ended the first, hitting a shout beyond the arc to push the Tigers out to a 39-32 lead. After a short dry spell from DWU, the Broncos were able to cut the margin to two points, then one after converting on a and-one shot. With 10:33 to play in the second half and the Broncos leading by one point, 46-45, DWU called for a full timeout and a quick substitution. After Lubbers entered the game at the timeout, he then made one-of-two free throws after being fouled as DWU still trailed 48-46. The Tigers didn't collect on another basket till the 7:18 mark when Herman hit a jump shot cutting the deficit to seven. With two minutes to play in the game Jakob Dobney converted on a pair of foul shots, cutting the margin to 57-66. Overall, the game posted eight ties and seven lead changes while the Tigers shot 32.8% from the floor, 19% beyond the arc, and 87.5% at the foul line. Hastings shot 42.9% from the floor, 33.3% from distance, and 85% at the free throw line.
