Tigers Secure 99-90 Victory Over RV Morningside Behind Dobney’s 30-Point Performance

Mitchell, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan men's basketball team delivered a strong performance, combining efficient shooting and dominance on the boards to secure a 99-90 victory over RV Morningside in GPAC action on Wednesday night.

The Tigers (19-6, 12-5 GPAC) set the tone early, shooting 62.7% from the field and 42.1% from beyond the arc. Dakota Wesleyan maintained control throughout, staying composed and executing smart, efficient basketball.

Dakota Wesleyan came out strong, holding a 44-40 lead at halftime. Jakob Dobney ignited the offense with 16 points, while Samuel Aslesen contributed six points and three rebounds. The Mustangs found some rhythm but couldn't overcome the Tigers' consistent play, as Dakota Wesleyan held onto a slim lead at the break.

In the second half, the Tigers wasted no time, opening with a 7-0 run before Morningside was able to score. Midway through the half, Jakob Dobney and Tampa Scott IV caught fire, extending the Tigers' lead to 15 points with 10:00 remaining. The Mustangs made a push but couldn't close the gap, never reducing the deficit to fewer than 9 points. Dakota Wesleyan outscored Morningside 50-46 in the second half to seal the win.

The Tigers won the boards, outrebounding Morningside 29-22, and forced the Mustangs into seven turnovers, helping secure the victory.

Jakob Dobney (Sr., Vermillion, S.D., Psychology) led the Tigers with a dominant 30-point performance, adding four rebounds, three three-pointers, and four assists in a standout showing.
