
Mitchell, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers (20-8, 13-7 GPAC) nearly pulled off a stunning upset at The World's Only Corn Palace, pushing No. 7-ranked Dordt University (26-2, 18-2 GPAC) to the brink in a thrilling 77-74 showdown. Despite falling just short, the Tigers showcased their resilience, grit, and ability to go toe-to-toe with the nation's best.
Led by standout performances from Tampa Scott IV and Jakob Dobney, Dakota Wesleyan fought back from an early deficit, dominating the glass and controlling the tempo for much of the second half. Though the final score favored Dordt, the Tigers proved they are a force to be reckoned with heading into the post season. .
Dordt came out hot, shooting 63% in the first half to take a 39-35 lead. The Tigers, however, never wavered. Scott sharpshooting and Dobney's aggressive play kept Dakota Wesleyan within striking distance, setting the stage for a thrilling second half.
After halftime, Dakota Wesleyan turned up the intensity. Scott drilled three three-pointers and finished with a game-high 24 points, while Dobney added 23, attacking the rim and converting clutch free throws. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 29-24 and dominated second-chance points 11-6, showing their toughness on both ends of the floor.
Though the final score didn't swing their way, the Tigers' fight and determination were undeniable. This performance sets the stage for a strong finish to the season.
