Waterloo, Iowa –
The DWU men's golf team finished 10th at the Waterloo Intercollegiate this afternoon. The Tigers faced yet another golf meet of cold, wet, and windy conditions but they pushed through, improving their final round score on the second day after struggling through the first round. Juan Florez was the top Tiger finisher after he climbed 19 spots in the final round to finish in 30th.
Scores
Athlete R1 R2 R3
Juan Florez 82 78 72
Connor Calahan 74 82 77
Peyton Bettcher 82 78 81
Jackson Childs 86 81 81
Coach Meyerink had this to say about the meet, "Today was a better day. Juan moved up 19 spots after yesterday's first two rounds with his par round of 72. The weather was brutal, we may never get warm again, with the wind blowing 25-30 mph. I was pleased to see them shoot 311 today as a team, especially since we only had four guys this meet. Jackson had a nice round shooting 81 and Peyton did as well. Both were striking the ball the best they have all year, just could not get the putts to go in. Our ball striking was a good as anyone out there, we just didn't capitalize. Even though we finished 10th, I think that tournament taught them how hard it is to win without making putts. We do that, we will be right in the mix and now they are ready to address it and are all-in on getting ready for the GPAC Tournament.
Up Next for the Tigers –
The Tigers will compete in the GPAC Championships on April 29th and 30th in Beatrice, Neb. at the Beatrice Golf Course.
