MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer topped No. 23 Rocky Mountain College (Mont.), giving the Tigers their first win over an NAIA ranked opponent in program history Saturday in Jamestown, N.D..
The win was also the first of the young season for DWU (1-3), which had been held off the scoreboard through its first three games. The Tigers got on the board early against RMC and secured the 2-0 win late.
Peter Wartenberg scored the first goal of the 2014 season for the Tigers in the seventh minute on an assist from Bryce Berletic. Goalkeeper Alex Nelson saved all six shots on goal from RMC for his first shutout of the season.
Ryan West gave the Tigers some insurance in the 82 minute with a goal on a feed from Chaz Foss.
The Tigers, which finished with seven shots on goal against RMC, play their first home match against Clarke University at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
