Tiger men fall short in 2-0 loss to Red Raiders

MITCHELL, S.D. – In a physical Great Plains Athletic Conference contest, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Northwestern College Friday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The loss is the third in four games for a Tiger team that had won its previous six. DWU is now 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the GPAC

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an own goal by the DWU defense late in the first half. The goal was scored when a clearance attempt by the Tiger defense errantly found its way past DWU junior goalkeeper Alex Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.), who finished with five saves.

Northwestern extended its lead in the second half with a tally from Pedro de Fonseca on an assist Koray Karakas.

The Tigers were outshot 11-5 and committed 10 fouls to six from the Red Raiders.

DWU will have a week off before taking on Doane College in another GPAC contest at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 in Crete, Neb.
