Tiger Men Topple Prairie Wolves in GPAC Lidlifter

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team continued to score early in the first half in a 5-1 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The Tigers scored all five of their tallies, all from different sources, in the first half on a windy day in Mitchell.

The Tigers got things started with a goal in the eighth minute from senior forward Chaz Foss (Rapid City, S.D.), while sophomore midfielder Peter Wartenberg (Chaska, Minn.) made it 2-0 less than minute later on an assist from Foss.

Back-to-back goals from senior midfield Bryce Berletic (Rochester, Minn.) and junior midfielder Adam Jahnel (Blair, Neb.) made the score 4-0, while senior Tyler Grilley (Sioux Falls, S.D.) ripped a laser from 20 yards out past the NWU goalkeeper.

The Prairie Wolves got on the board early in the second half with a goal that snapped DWU junior goalkeeper Alex Nelson's (Sioux Falls, S.D.) shutout streak of more than three games.

The win moves the Tigers above .500 to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC. DWU is next in action against Presentation College at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 in Mitchell.
