CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team played a solid defensive game and held off a strong Doane College attack for most of the contest, but fell 1-0 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Crete, Neb.
DWU was outshot 21 to 10 and Doane put nine shots on net to three from Wesleyan. The loss drops DWU to 2-4 in the conference and 7-7 overall.
The lone goal of the game was scored by Doane's Issac Beber on a feed from Mike Wallace in the 48th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) kept Wesleyan in the game with six saves. Senior forward Chaz Foss (Rapid City, S.D.) let five shots go for DWU, hitting the net once. Junior Zach Schneider (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and senior Bryce Berletic (Rochester, Minn.) each finished with a shot on goal.
Doane goalkeeper Casey Clark made three saves to earn the shutout.
DWU continues GPAC play against rival Mount Marty at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Yankton, S.D.
