DWU men stall in 2-0 loss to Mount Mercy

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team played their first game of the weekend in Dubuque, Iowa against Mount Mercy University on Saturday

After a strong finish in the season opener earlier in the week, the Tiger offense failed to get going against Mount Mercy, which scored two second-half goals to top DWU 2-0.

DWU held Mount Mercy scoreless in the first half, but two late second half goals sealed the game for the Mustangs. Mount Mercy's Kevon Farquharson scored the first goal in the 79th minute, while Filip Kovacevic scored their second goal on an assist from Marco Fichtner in the 83rd minute.

For the Tigers, senior goalie Alex Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had 12 saves to help keep the Tigers in the game until late. Mount Mercy limited DWU to three total shots, all in the first half. Seniors Sterling Hubbard (Jamestown, N.D.) and Lionel Karyea (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) each had one shot, while freshman Daniel Clas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) also had a shot.

The Tigers look to rebound against Clarke University at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Dubuque.
