Jahnel scores, DWU falls 2-1 to Viterbo

La CROSSE, Wis. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team scored its first goal since the season opener, but failed to hold the lead in a loss to Viterbo University Thursday in La Crosse, Wis.

The Tigers (1-3) got on the board in the first half with a goal from senior Adam Jahnel (Blair, Neb.) in the 29th minute. The V-Hawks wasted no time getting back to even with a goal from Corey Leitzio just 40 seconds later.

Viterbo's Sebastian Flores found the back of the net in the 76th minute to put the home team up. The V-Hawks (4-5) held on for the 2-1 win, handing DWU a third straight loss.

The Tigers were outshot 18-5. DWU senior goalkeeper Alex Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made five saves, while Jahnel led DWU with two shots on net and his goal was his first of the season. 

The Tigers return home and will look to get back in the win column against the University of Jamestown at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.
