DWU drops home match to Jamestown

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's soccer team dropped its fourth straight contest Sunday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The University of Jamestown scored early and the Tigers responded right back, but the Jimmies' offense was too much for DWU and the visitors pulled away in the second half. Jamestown (4-2) took the win 4-1 to drop DWU to 1-4 overall this season.

The scoring started early with Jack Humphries putting one in the back of the net in the third minute off a corner kick that bounced around the six-yard box. The assist on the goal wen to Sam Della Monica. The Tigers fought back with a goal 11 minutes later. Freshman Yoshi Kogiso (Cuernavaca, Mexico) scored his second goal of the season directly off a corner kick, bending the ball past the Jimmies' goalie.

The tie did not last long as Jamestown's Henri Lucena-Pires took a feed from Jacob-Scotte-Hatherly and scored to put his team up 2-1 heading into the half.

The Tigers could not get going after the break and Jamestown scored two more to pull away. The Jimmies outshot the Tigers 17-6. Freshman goalkeeper John Sutherland (Hartlepool, England) played the first half for DWU and made seven saves, while fellow freshman Gaston Miteff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) took over in the second half with eight saves, several of the spectacular variety.

DWU looks to regroup against Grace University at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex.
